Wedding favors is the old tradition which is the essential element of each wedding ceremony. They are symbol of hospitality and gratitude. The guests receive the wedding favors from the couple. Many people are interested in the origin of this tradition. There are several different theories. In the beginning of the tradition the groom and bride expressed their guests the gratitude for their coming. Usually the wedding favors were small boxes with confections. In fact it was very expensive present, as the sugar was rare and expensive good. Besides, the boxes were nice decorated with the ribbons, fabric, special paper and crystals, which were also expensive. So it was also the confirmation of status and symbol of wealth and success. Many years the most common wedding favors were the almonds in small boxes. The nuts were symbols of good wishes. Besides, sometimes, the grooms and brides combined sugar and almonds and it was really chic present. The next stage of the wedding favor`s development was connected with five elements of the happy marriage: happiness, health, wealth, longevity and fertility. Because of it the presents had to include five items, for example, 5 nuts. Nowadays the trend in the wedding fashion is to present small metal items, such as key chains, photo frames or bottle holders. The choice depends on the groom and bride. The wedding favors must express the personality of the couple and their love to each other. Besides, they must be unique and special. The culture and nationality influence a lot on the choice of wedding favors, as in each country there are special requirements and traditions connected with the wedding favors.
